I played scientist and took soil samples today. The pH for the squash is perfect-slightly acidic, pH of 6.5.
Now to test
N (nitrogen, for plant nutrition), P (phosphorus, for plant
genetics and seed production), and K (potash, for root development,
color and flavor).
N - nitrogen - deficiency causes yellow leaves and stunted growth; too much causes over abundant foliage with delayed flowering.
P - phosphorus - deficiency causes stunted growth and seed sterility
K - potash - deficiency causes stunted plants and poorly developed root
systems, leaves may become spotted, curled, and dried out at the edges,
low yield
My soil was depleted of all three!
The 10-10-10 did not have directions on the
package, so I finally decided just to throw it around and water it in. I
really hope this will not burn up my new little plants!!!
